Modifications of the Krķa
The objectives
The
standard design of the FC Europe was only a starting point or a platform. The
Intention of the modification was and is to create a low budget performance cruiser
adapted to our individual needs. Racing capabilities have lower priority, but
they are preserved as far as possible.
This
required improvement in the following areas:
Handling:
Autopilot, mainsail with sliders, gennaker. For performance reasons we stopped
short of fitting a headsail furler but that would clearly be an option. Lazy
jacks (requiring full batten main) and spinnaker snuffers were never seriously
considered.
Stability:
Keel modification, heavy batteries and anchor chain in the bilge.
Accomodation
and comfort: Forward cabin, holding tank, heater, fridge, shelves, stowage box
system, boom tent.
Cruising
outfit: Heavy duty anchor and chain with electric winch, access hatches to
below cockpit stowage, stern platform, Inflatable with motor, folding bikes.
Navigation
outfit: Computer with tactical SW linked to all systems. Differential GPS,
Navtex, etc.
